Although we might have eyes and ears to see and hear, the focus of The Word of The LORD to us is that we might have eyes that can see and ears that can hear, to understand by faith with our hearts and minds, to comprehend The Things GOD has revealed and is willing to reveal to us by HIS Word. For HE said by HIS Word through Jeremiah, saying, "Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying, Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not: Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand [for] the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone. Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.
"Your iniquities have turned away these [things], and your sins have withholden good [things] from you. For among my people are found wicked [men]: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. As a cage is full of birds, so [are] their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich. They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge. Shall I not visit for these [things]? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love [to have it] so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?" (Jeremiah 5:20-31)
As we reflect on what GOD has revealed by HIS Word, let us take notice with both our eyes and ears to hear of the things GOD wanted the people of Judah to see and hear, and ask ourselves the question, are we doing the same things today, as they did when GOD spoke to them by HIS Word through His servant Jeremiah? For in the parable of the ten virgins, five were called foolish, and five were called wise. If we are to be among the wise, then we need to know what made the foolish to be foolish, and if we are following in the same path, then we need to repent and not walk in the same path as they did, to walk in the path of the wise, to be among and with the wise.
GOD called the people foolish, because they were without understanding. They had eyes to see, yet they saw not. They had ears to hear, yet they feared not The LORD, nor did they exalt and revere, or reverence and honored GOD and HIS Word, as HE should be respected and honored in the hearing and receiving of HIS Word. The people had a revolting and a rebellious heart. They did not say within their hearts, "Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season..." Through Jeremiah, The LORD said by HIS Word that the iniquities of the people had turned away these--(The rain, both the former and the latter, in his season.), and their sins have withheld good from them.
The LORD revealed that there were found wicked men among His people. These wicked men laid in wait and set snares and traps to catch men, as birds in a cage. The houses of these men were full of deceit. They were all grievous, rebellious, walking with slanders and corrupters. Their hearts were deceitful and desperately wicked. They were men that did err in their hearts, and had not known GOD'S Way. Through His servant Hosea, The LORD by HIS Word said, "...my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the most High, none at all would exalt [him]" (Hosea 11:7). As HE said by HIS Word through Jeremiah, "Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence? Through Paul, The Word of The LORD said to the church, "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end" (Hebrews 3:12-14).
Because there were men found among His people, who were corrupting the hearts of His people to backslide away from GOD by not exalting HIM and HIS Word, The LORD is seen as ONE, WHO is searching for a man, who does understand and know HIS Way. Through David, The Word said, "The fool hath said in his heart, [There is] no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, [there is] none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, [and] seek God. They are all gone aside, they are [all] together become filthy: [there is] none that doeth good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people [as] they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD" (Psalms 14:1-4).
The question of men seeking The Knowledge of GOD is so important that The LORD spoke again by HIS Word through David and said, "The fool hath said in his heart, [There is] no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: [there is] none that doeth good. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were [any] that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; [there is] none that doeth good, no, not one. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people [as] they eat bread: they have not called upon God" (Psalms 53:1-4).
And now through Jeremiah, the command of The LORD is given again by HIS Word, to search again to find a man. HE says, "Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be [any] that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; I will pardon it. And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely. O LORD, [are] not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, [but] they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return. Therefore I said, Surely these [are] poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, [nor] the judgment of their God. I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD [and] the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, [and] burst the bonds. Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, [and] a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, [and] their backslidings are increased. How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by [them that are] no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses. They were [as] fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.
"Shall I not visit for these [things]? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they [are] not the LORD'S. For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD. They have belied the LORD, and said, [It is] not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine: And the prophets shall become wind, and the word [is] not in them: thus shall it be done unto them. Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it [is] a mighty nation, it [is] an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say. Their quiver [is] as an open sepulchre, they [are] all mighty men. And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, [which] thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword. Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you. And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these [things] unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land [that is] not yours" (Jeremiah 5:1-19).
What kind of man, or men is GOD looking for in all the earth? HE said to Jeremiah to seek, if he can find, if there be any that execut judgment, that seek the truth, and HE will pardon it. Speaking in response to The LORD of His people, who should have known Judgment and Truth, Jeremiah said, "O LORD, [are] not thine eyes upon the truth? He said to The LORD, "thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved. He said to HIM, "thou hast consumed them, [but] they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return."
When Jesus came to dwell among His people, who were backsliding from The LORD in not obeying HIS Word, He said to His disciples, "...Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all [these] things are done in parables: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and [their] sins should be forgiven them. And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?" (Mark 4:11-13).
Like the children of Israel, who were led out of bondage to walk with The LORD by The Presence of HIS Word, many of our churches came out of The Dark Ages of not knowing The Truth of GOD by following The Truth GOD had revealed to them by HIS Word. But many did not come out all The Way in following The LORD by HIS Word. But like the children of Israel, who wanted to return to Egypt, many of our churches are now backsliding and returning to The Dark Ages, to forsake The LORD and HIS Word in following and swearing by the errors of them that are no gods. They fear not The LORD, WHO gives rain, both the former and the latter rain, in his season. And because of a revolting and a rebellious heart in forsaking The LORD, to backslide from The LORD by not exalting HIM and HIS Word, the people without Understanding, or Judgment have turned away the good things of the former and the latter rain in his season, to serve strange gods. Yet, many are today praying to GOD for the out pouring of the latter rain, but they have no Understanding, or Judgment as to why they have not received The Rain, which is given of GOD, because they do not exalt GOD by HIS Word.
Is HE still looking for a man, or men even in our churches, who will execute judgment and seek after The Truth? Could we say we know The Way of The LORD, and The Judgment of our God? Could we say within our hearts, Let us now fear The LORD our God, and exalt HIM, WHO gives The Rain, both The Former and The Latter Rain, in His season? I pray that we will repent of our rebellious hearts and turn from forsaking The LORD, to return to HIM that HE might return to us, and receive The Blessings, Which only GOD can give by our receiving of HIS Word.
