What is The Transcript of
GOD’S Character?

When we do a study on the word “Transcript”, the definition, as given in the dictionary says it is a copy, especially one made by writing or typing. And as we study the meaning of this word “Transcript”, we learn more about The Word of GOD, and of His Glory. For the definition of the word “Transcript” says it is a copy, and in further study on this word “Transcript”, we find other meanings from a thesaurus, to further enlighten our understanding on The Word of GOD.

The definition, as given in the dictionary says the word “Transcript” is a copy. And the thesaurus says more than just a copy. It says the word “Transcript” is a form, a likeness, a similitude, a semblance, a cast, a representation, a study, a portrait, and a resemblance. And under the word “Duplicate”, which is given as one of the meanings of the word “Transcript” or copy, it says, it is a transcription, a reprint, a replica, an offprint, a reproduction, a faithful likeness, close, exact, and strict in the sense of not changing in its representation.

Now, you might say, What does this definition of the word “Transcript” have to do with The Law of GOD. Well, under the word “Transcript” in the thesaurus, there is also the word “Writing”. And in presenting the meaning of the word “Writing”, as it relates to the word “Transcript”, there is a whole list of words with their sub meanings that cover a range of topics. But I will select a few words that reflect the purpose of this study, to reveal why GOD’S Law was written, both in Stone and in a book.

The meaning of the word “Transcript”, or “Copy”, or “Writing” is of a pencraft, penmanship and typewriting. And under the word “Stroke” meaning of the pen, it is a line, a headline and pen and ink. The “Writing” is defined as a “Manuscript”, MS, a writing, litterae, scriptae [L.]; these presents [Law]. There are other words under the meaning of the word “Writing” that helps to reveal this meaning of the word “Transcript”, or “Copy”, such as “character”, letter, or letters etc. There are also words in writing, used to denote the “Transcript” or a writing of what was taking place, what is taking place, to put more clearly in writing of what took place, such as the writings written in “Shorthand”—stenography, brachygraphy, tachygraphy, secret writing, or writing in cipher etc. There is also the word that deals, not only with the writings, but also the “Writer”, such as a scribe, a secretary, a clerk, a penman, a copyist, and a transcriber etc.

With all these words, which could have been a whole lot more, to get all that was stated on this topic, the question might be asked, what does all this have to do with The Law of GOD being The Transcript of GOD’S Character. The Law of GOD is said to be a Transcript of The Character GOD and HIS Word, because The Word of GOD is The Express Image of The Father, to be The Transcript of GOD’S Character in every way, because He is The Son of GOD. The Word of GOD is The Transcript, The Form, The Likeness, The Similitude, The Semblance, The Cast, The Representation, The Study, The Portrait, and The Resemblance of GOD.

In the writings of the book of Hebrews, Paul--the writer said, “God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets” (Hebrews 1:1). Notice that GOD did not speak to the fathers of Israel directly, but HE spoke to them by the prophets, who represented, or transcribed HIS speaking unto them, through them to the father’s of Israel. But how did GOD speak to the prophets. The Word says, “in divers manners”. Peter also wrote of The Word and said of the prophets, who, “…have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace [that should come] unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into” (1 Peter 1:10-12).

Notice the answer to the question on how GOD spoke to the fathers in divers manners in time past. The Word is The Spirit of Christ, Who is The Son of GOD, Who was in the prophets, speaking by them unto the fathers of Israel. Paul wrote of GOD, and said HE, “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Hebrews 1:2, 3).

The Son of GOD is The “Transcript”, or The Express Image of The Father. He is The Spirit, Who is of GOD, Who was in the prophets, who were His penmen, His copyist, and His transcribers, who wrote what He spoke, or impressed upon their hearts, or their minds. Jesus Testified to the Jews and said, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me” (John 5:39).

As one of Christ prophets, through whom He spoke to the fathers of Israel, Isaiah said, “Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, [there is] no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were [our] faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:1-6).

Notice that He--The Arm of the LORD was wounded, because of our transgressions, our sins of not copying His letters, or His Characteristics in our hearts. In other words, men and women have failed to reflect, to transcribe in their own lives The Character, The Transcript, The Express Image of Him, just as He is The Transcript, or The Express Image of The Father in all that He says and does, to glorify The Father.

Paul said in his testimony of Christ to the church at Corinth, saying, “Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some [others], epistles of commendation to you, or [letters] of commendation from you? Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: [Forasmuch as ye are] manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart. And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward: Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency [is] of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. But if the ministration of death, written [and] engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which [glory] was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious? For if the ministration of condemnation [be] glory, much more doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excelleth. For if that which is done away [was] glorious, much more that which remaineth [is] glorious” (2 Corinthians 3:1-11).

Don’t miss the point that is being revealed here in these words to us through Paul by The Spirit of Christ, Who was Ministering His Words of Life to us through Paul. The Same Word of GOD, Who wrote GOD’S Law, HIS Transcript, HIS Manuscript, HIS Testimony in stone, according to Exodus 32:15, and Exodus 34:29; He writes, or transcribes GOD’S Testimony, HIS Character, HIS Law, not on stone that we may hang upon the walls of our homes, or remain as ink on the pages of our Bibles, but as He said through Paul, “Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart” (2 Corinthians 3:3). That, which will remain to be glorious is GOD’S Testimony, HIS Transcript written by The Spirit of The Living GOD upon our hearts.

The writing is clear that the focus of Christ Letters, His Character, His Testimony is to be engraved upon our hearts, to be His epistles, The Word of GOD written in our hearts, to reflect His glory, as He reflects GOD’S Glory and Character. With The Spirit of Christ in him, Isaiah Testified of Christ, and said, “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them” (Isaiah 8:20).

In speaking to the people, who saw Jesus cast out a devil from a man, they in their miss-transcribing of Christ Character, they said that, “He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils.” But Jesus said to them, “…if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you” (Luke 11:15, 20). Notice that The Finger of GOD, HIS Copyist, or HIS Transcriber, Who is The Express Image and Character of GOD, He wrote The Testimony of GOD in Stone.

In transcribing his record of the same event when Jesus cast out the devils out of the man, Matthew wrote of Jesus, Who said, “…if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you” (Matthew 12:28). Here we see in both records of that event, that it was Christ Jesus, Who Testified that it was He, Who cast out the devils “with the finger of God”, or “by the Spirit of God”, Who also was in a body made for His Spirit to dwell in and be among men, as The Son of Man in the likeness of sinful flesh. It was His Spirit, Who was in the man, to cast out the devils out of him.

Paul wrote and said, “For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh” (Romans 8:3). Why did GOD do this? Paul wrote and said, “That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:4). The Word of Life is given, to be fulfilled in us, not to destroy The Transcript, or The Testimony of GOD’S Covenant Word in us, which is what the adversary wants to do in man, according to Revelation 12:17. No, The Express Image and Character of Christ, He fulfills by His Spirit, The Righteousness of GOD’S Law of Life in all, who are called to be the children of GOD.

John made this clear and said of Him, “…as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth” (John 1:12-14).

The point to consider from this evidence is this, Paul said, “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and [that] the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” (1 Corinthians 3:16) Paul also wrote and said, “Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make [them] the members of an harlot? God forbid” (1 Corinthians 6:15). And “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” (1 Corinthians 6:19, 20)

Being the members of Christ body, to be filled by His Spirit of Life in us, we are to glorify Christ Body by obeying His leading in or lives, rather than being possessed by the spirit of the adversary, to disobey The Will of GOD’S leading by HIS Word of Life in us. And if we are of One Spirit with Christ and The Father, then He--The Word of GOD has Transmitted GOD’S Will to the members of His Body and says, “Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it [is] holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth [any] work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Six days may work be done; but in the seventh [is] the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth [any] work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, [for] a perpetual covenant. It [is] a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God” (Exodus 31:14-18).

Notice that as members of Christ Body, we are to represent, to reflect in our lives a copy of The Character of Christ, Who as The Finger of GOD, Who transcribed His Character in us, to be like Him, to be called by His Name--Christians. And we will be like Him in keeping The Imprint He has impressed upon our hearts. For it is by His Character in us that we will keep The Righteousness of GOD’S Law. When GOD gave HIS Word, as a Promise to all, who will receive and keep HIS Word, HE gives by and in HIS Word--The Promise to keep HIS Word of Promise. Ellen G. White wrote and said…“(John 14:15). Ten Commandments--Ten Promises.--The ten commandments, Thou shalt, and Thou shalt not, are ten promises, assured to us if we render obedience to the law governing the universe. "If ye love me, keep my commandments." Here is the sum and substance of the law of God. The terms of salvation for every son and daughter of Adam are here outlined (MS 41, 1896).” (1BC 1105.1)

“The ten holy precepts spoken by Christ upon Sinai's mount were the revelation of the character of God, and made known to the world the fact that He had jurisdiction over the whole human heritage. That law of ten precepts of the greatest love that can be presented to man is the voice of God from heaven speaking to the soul in promise, "This do, and you will not come under the dominion and control of Satan." There is not a negative in that law, although it may appear thus. It is DO, and Live (Letter 89, 1898).” (1BC 1105.2)

In support of this view on The Transcript of GOD’S Word of Promise, Paul wrote and said, “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus; Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses [was faithful] in all his house. For this [man] was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house. For every house is builded by some [man]; but he that built all things [is] God. And Moses verily [was] faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after; But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

“Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in [their] heart; and they have not known my ways. So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.) Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation” (Hebrews 3:1-15).

But if men and women choose not to obey The Voice of GOD by The Transcript of GOD’S Word to give HIM Glory by HIS Word of Life in them, to be Holy and made Perfect by Him, then they are none of His, according to the testimony of Paul to the Romans. For he said to the believers in Rome that, “…ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ [be] in you, the body [is] dead because of sin; but the Spirit [is] life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:9-15).

Speaking about "God's Goodness Displayed", which is the title of one of her devotionals, Ellen G. White wrote of the children of GOD, who are called to display HIS Character. In quoting The Word by Peter, she said, "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light" (1 Peter 2:9).

"As the wax takes the counterpart of the seal, so the soul receives and retains the moral image of God. We become filled and transfigured by beholding His purity and righteousness. Our souls will become sluggish and our faith enfeebled unless we arouse and have a firm, steady, active faith. . . .

"The great sin of God's people at the present time is, we do not appreciate the value of the blessings God has bestowed upon us. We serve God with a divided heart. We cherish some idol and worship at its shrine. The truth of God is elevated and holy, sanctifying the soul, if brought into the life and interwoven with the character. God is seeking with His truth to make us a separate and peculiar people. This is the influence of the truth. Our obedience and devotion are not equal to our light and privileges, and the sacred obligations resting upon us to walk as children of the light are not fulfilled by us. As Christians we fail to come up to our high calling. Warnings and reproofs have been given us from God but only for a time have an influence upon us because we do not consider it as our lifework to press forward and upward to the mark of the prize of the high calling in Christ Jesus.

"Oh, that God's people would consider their superior advantages, and understand from the light of God's Word that we must be judged according to the light that shine upon our pathway. All the privileges and opportunities given us of God are for the purpose of making us better men and women. The people of God must move from a settled principle, making it their first principle to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness and then go on from light to still greater light. . . .

"Every soul who really believes the Word of God will show the same by his works. The great goodness of God is displayed in His will. Whatever His will or Word requires them to do they cannot be Christians if they neglect to do this. The truth is able to save our souls, for God by His own Spirit is a continual agent in it, and the divine agency makes the truth a sanctifying power.--Letter 8, Feb. 11, 1887, to Brother and Sister Lockwood."
