Notice: To comprehend and identify the forbidden tree and its fruit by faith, read each section in the order presented.

1. What is the forbidden fruit?   2. Identifying the tree by Faith?   3. The Tree with Knowledge
4. The Sowers in the field   5. Eating the Fruit   6. Bearing Fruit

Now that we understand more clearly the concept of the types of trees and their fruits, we can look again at what took place in the garden of Eden, that we might discern how it was that Adam and Eve came to eat of the forbidden fruit.

As The Word said, "Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which [is] in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

"And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree [was] good for food, and that it [was] pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make [one] wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat" (Genesis 3:1-6).

From the record revealed in GOD'S Word, we see that the enemy of our souls was subtil, cunning, and devious in his dealing with Adam and Eve, who never encountered anyone, who would be so deceptive in his dealings with them. Everything that GOD made was good and very good, and the things that were beautiful to behold were an expression of GOD'S gifts from The Treasure of HIS Word. But GOD had commanded by HIS Word to Adam, who by HIS Word also informed Eve, to eat not from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. But the serpent enticed, allured, attracted them to him by saying with his tongue, "has God said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" Notice that this was not what GOD had said to Adam by HIS Word. Eve's response was to correct him in his view of What GOD did say by HIS Word. But he was the tree that bore the fruit of evil from his heart against GOD and HIS Word. For he led them to believe that GOD had lied to them by HIS Word, which caused them to see him as being a source to make them wise. But as we have learned from The Word of GOD, this "...wisdom descendeth not from above, but [is] earthly, sensual, devilish" (James 3:15).

After accepting the lie, to turn against GOD and HIS Word, Who was The Light and Life of man, it is revealed that "...the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they [were] naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden" (Genesis 3:7, 8). Notice that The Light of GOD'S Expressed Glory is revealed in HIS Word, and as The Word of GOD abode in the hearts of Adam and Eve, they were revealing GOD'S Image by HIS Word in them. But in the pursuit of the enemy to conquer all, to sit and exalt his throne above the stars of GOD, he saw everyone he overcame with his lies, as a stepping-stone to his goal. At every step, he sought to deceive everyone to exalt his throne, to be like The Most High GOD.

They hid themselves from The Expressed Image of The LORD, WHO is revealed in HIS Word.

Being made in The Image of GOD, by The Light and Life of HIS Word, Adam and Eve, who was our first parents, and rulers of this earth were to reign over all things on this earth. But the enemy overcame them by his words of deception of darkness and death, to cause men to hide in him. And many have been hiding in him for generations. And because of their death and separation from their oneness of Spirit with GOD by HIS Word, "...the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where [art] thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I [was] naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou [wast] naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest [to be] with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What [is] this [that] thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

Notice that Adam and Eve was afraid of GOD, WHO was heard by The Voice of HIS Word in the garden, and they went and hid themselves among the trees. Could you imagine your children hiding from you, because of their fear of you? And because of this fear, and their nakedness of being in darkness to The Truth of GOD'S Word, Adam blamed GOD for giving to him the woman. And the woman blamed the serpent for deceiving her into eating of the fruit of his lies. And today, many are still eating of the fruit of his lies to go against "The Commands GOD has given in HIS Word".

As a result of man eating the fruit that led to his death, "...the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou [art] cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel" (Genesis 3:14-15). Notice that GOD made man from the dust of the world. He was made, as the highest form of dust upon the earth. And after GOD created man in HIS OWN Image, and blessed them with Life, HE said to them "...Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth" (Genesis 1:28). But after man sinned, he was seen, as the highest form of dust the enemy would seek to overcome in his goal for dominion of this earth. For it is written, "A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; [and] with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof" (Proverbs 18:20, 21).

The enemy has made his living by eating the dust of the ground, to make men his seed, and to lead men to follow him in darkness and death. For Jesus said to those, who rejected The Truth of His Words, in not receiving Him in their hearts, saying, "...If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? [even] because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell [you] the truth, ye believe me not" (John 8:42-45). If men, as the dust of the ground received The Word of Life in them, then by The Power of GOD'S Word they will bear His Fruit of Life, to be fruitful in the earth. But if men reject The Word of Life, they return to dust from which they came.

The Word, in proceeding "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire [shall be] to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee" (Genesis 3:16).. Notice that in sorrow, the woman would bring forth children into the world. This goes not only for the woman in child birth, but it goes also for the church in laboring to bear fruit onto The Kingdom of GOD. For it is written that although The Word of Life has been given of GOD to be received into the highest form of dust into the earth, "He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God" (John 1:10-13).

"And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed [is] the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat [of] it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou [art], and unto dust shalt thou return" (Genesis 3:17-19). Notice that in The Garden of Eden, GOD had provided all that Adam need for Life, but since he rejected The Word of Truth to believe the lie of the enemy, he would be rejected also from his Eden home to provide for himself and his wife, by working to harvest food from the soil of the ground. Their eyes were open to the changes that came as a result of eating of the forbidden fruit of the enemy.

As we have learned from our study of The Word thus far, The Tree of Life to man is The Wisdom of GOD to men, but Eve saw that the tree of knowledge of good and evil was pleasant to the eyes, and it was a tree to be desired to make one wise. She took of his fruit, which was from the treasures of his heart and gave also to her husband Adam. Because Adam and Eve received the fruit of Satan's corrupt counsel, from the mouth that spoke poisonous words, their ongoing connection with The Word of Wisdom from The LORD was broken. The serpent's interpretation of The Word of God was the fruit they were forbidden to receive. Eve saw him as a tree, which was pleasant to the eyes and his fruit as being good for food, but it was in receiving this fruit that Satan said to Eve, your eyes shall be opened and you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Instead, their eyes were open to the Truth of what they had lost. They no longer bore the Fruit of the Tree of Life, Who clothed them with GOD'S Light and Life in HIS abiding Presence, because they submitted to Satan's counsel of deception and lies. But by The Gift of GOD to men, it was revealed to the church through Paul, who said, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, [who is] our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory" (Colossians 3:1-4).

The Light and Life of Christ was now gone from them, not because God removed Himself from man, but because man removed and hid himself from The Presence of The LORD. Adam broke The Law of Life by removing himself from The Lord and his wife by first blaming The Lord and his wife for eating the forbidden fruit. This act broke The Law of Love for God and for his wife, who was of himself and brought about darkness and death to man.

Today, many in the world remain in darkness to The Law of Love and The Light of Truth, including many within the church. But through His disciples of old, The LORD said by HIS Word how we might be blessed of HIM. He said we shall be blessed if we choose not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly, or stand in the way of sinners, or sit in the seat of the scornful, but our delight shall be in the Law of the LORD, as we meditate on HIS Law day and night. In doing this, we shall be like that Tree wherein we are planted by rivers of Living Water that brings forth from us HIS Fruit in His season. By abiding in Him we shall not wither, and whatever He do through us, it will prosper.

Those who remain in darkness shall not stand in the Judgment, not even in the congregation of the righteous, for The LORD is the ONE, WHO leads The Way of the righteous, but those in darkness will perish. To the Pharisees who rejected Him, Jesus said, "He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy [against] the [Holy] Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the [world] to come. Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by [his] fruit. O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned" (Matthew 12:30-37).

Today, many who say they are knowledgeable of The Word of God, teach men to walk contrary to the Will of God. They change The Truth of God into a lie that those who hear might follow their teachings, just, as Satan did with Eve in causing her to eat of his fruit. He said to her, "Hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?" After asking this question he then proceeded to darken her mind with his interpretation of The Word of God. He then pointed out to her from his understanding that God had lied to her and that she shall not surely die. Many in the church continue to believe in this lie and do not trust the Word of God. For this reason the Word said, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children" (Hosea 4:6).

To warn the church of the deceptions of Satan, The Word of GOD said, "Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits..." (Matthew 7:13-16).

He further testified of the last days and said, "...Many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved" "For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before" (Matthew 24:11-13, 24, 25).

Through His servant John, The Word said, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

"They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit" (1John 4:1-13).

The Word said, "He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God" (Revelation 2:7).

As we abide in Christ and He abides in us by faith, The Fruit of GOD'S Light and Life in us will shine out through us to those who are yet in darkness. He will gather with Him to The Father those who delight to meditate on His law and bear His fruit, and He will make the Tree of Life available to us in the paradise of God.
